History

The department of environmental health engineering began its activities in 1983 after the establishment of the school of medicine at tarbiat modares university in 1989, the first doctoral program in environmental health engineering in the country was launched at this university. Currently, this department accepts students for both masters and doctoral degrees and, by utilizing the scientific, research, and practical experiences of the faculty and the available laboratory facilities, it is active in various fields of environmental health, including control and treatment of pollutants in water and wastewater, air pollution control, urban and industrial waste management, soil pollution, health and environmental risk assessment, radiation health, food hygiene, and more. The mission of the environmental health engineering department is to educate students with the best possible scientific and practical quality and to produce knowledge through research and provide services to the community, the country, and environmental health professionals to improve health indicators.

THE MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT

The goal of the Department of Environmental Health Engineering is to educate committed graduates at the doctoral and masters levels in the field of environmental health engineering to meet the needs of faculty positions at universities and higher education institutions, as well as professionals required in research, planning, and implementation in both the private and public sectors for all environmental health issues, such as water supply, water treatment, design of water treatment units, collection of urban and rural sewage, sewage treatment, and design of sewage treatment plants, removal of emerging pollutants from water and sewage, solid waste collection, management, and disposal, air pollution control, identification, monitoring, and assessment of health and environmental risks of existing pollutants, radiation health, food hygiene, and more. The aim is to provide the necessary services in these areas and to contribute to the advancement and expansion of environmental health knowledge through research.
The mission of the Ph.D. and M.Sc. programs in Environmental Health Engineering is to supply specialized human resources to meet the needs of society in educational, research, executive, consulting, and managerial fields, to improve public health and welfare, to produce and expand knowledge and technologies for the preservation and improvement of the environment, to provide appropriate and practical solutions for the sustainable use of environmental resources, and to contribute to national economic development by capacity building in reducing environmental pollution and its related damages through the development of knowledge and awareness, and research to achieve efficient and practical methods.
The goal of the Department is to train committed graduates in Ph.D. and Master Programs in Environmental Health Engineering that can provide the qualified staff, for universities and institutes of higher education in the country, and experts required in research institutes, Environmental Planning and Implementation institutes, both in private and public sectors, which provide essential services such as water supply, water purification, urban and rural sewage collection, sewage treatment, Removing emerging pollutants from water and wastewater, collection and disposal of solid waste, air pollution control, radiation health, food health, housing and public places health, and so on through doing research and making contribution to the development and expansion of environmental health knowledge.

THE VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT

The aim of the specialized doctoral program in Environmental Health Engineering is to contribute to sustainable development and efficiency by utilizing the scientific achievements of humanity to ensure and improve health and access to divine resources. The philosophy of this program is to educate human resources at the highest scientific level in order to provide educational, research, and managerial services at national, regional, and international levels. The educational program of the specialized doctoral program in Environmental Health Engineering seeks to play a significant role in developing knowledge, research, and technology to improve the culture of society and expand capabilities to create a healthy environment for everyone. It aims to rank first in terms of educational standards and research output in meeting environmental health standards and requirements for the people in the region by the year 2025 and to take steps towards achieving the environmental health standards of developed countries in this field.

The main goal of the specialized doctoral (Ph.D.) and masters (M.Sc.) program in Environmental Health Engineering in the next decade is to provide specialized professionals for the research, educational, and executive activities required by national and international higher education, research, and executive institutions. It also aims to provide experts who can work in research, planning, management, and executive positions, whether in the private or public sector, in all environmental health issues, and can provide necessary services in the relevant fields or contribute to the advancement and expansion of environmental knowledge through research.

DEPARTMENT MEMBERS ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Currently, the environmental health engineering group has a faculty that, in addition to educational and research activities, is considered as a leading and prominent in generating scientific knowledge by presenting innovative designs in advanced processes for pollutant treatment, environmental biotechnology, bioelectrochemistry, environmental microbiology, air pollution, urban and industrial waste management, and health and environmental risk assessment. Additionally, teaching environmental health courses at universities and higher education institutions in the country, researching environmental health issues, educational and research planning, executive planning of environmental health projects, and providing consultation and expertise in specialized matters are among the other activities of the group members.
