IntroductionThe Department of Watershed Management Engineering (WME) at Tarbiat Modares University, was officially established in its current form in 1989. The department began admitting masters students in the second semester of 1989-1990 with the primary objective of training faculty members for Iranian Universities. The first student graduated from the program in late 1993, and since then, over 110 students have obtained their MSc degrees. Through a strategic development plan, the department successfully introduced a PhD program in Watershed Management Sciences and Engineering in early 2009. At present, the department boasts 5 expert faculty members (including 3 Full Professors, 1 Associate Professor, and 1 Assistant Professor) with an extensive publication record in national and international journals. Additionally, there are 36 PhD students and 20 masters students actively engaged in research and studies covering various aspects of water resources management, hydrology, soil erosion, sediment yield modeling, and watershed management. The department is well-equipped with a Spatial analysis and Data Processing center, a Soil and Water Engineering laboratory, a 3-D Scanner as well as small and large rain simulators to support practical experimentation. Furthermore, an experimental forest watershed area is equipped with essential tools like rain gauges, limnographs, and flumes for conducting field research.
