History

The Department of Bacteriology as a section of the Faculty of Medical Sciences started working by accepting MSc students which was concurrent with the foundation of Tarbiat Modares University in 1982.
The Bacteriology Department in 1367 launched its postgraduate program by accepting PhD students of Microbiology with the aim of training effective, professional and professional workforce in education and research in microbiology.

The Mission of the Department

Training expert and efficient human resources in the field of medical bacteriology in order to prepare qualified faculty members required by universities, scientific and research centers specializing in the management of clinical and research laboratories, and train specialists for managing and providing services in manufacturing and research companies.
Also, the faculty members of the Department of Bacteriology are working hard to elevate rank of the University at national and international levels. The provision of scientific and research services in the postgraduate programs which is aimed at producing science and meeting the needs of the country have always been the focal point of the programs of this Department.

Department Members Accomplishments

The faculty members and students introducing innovative and inventive designs to make advancement and development in the realm of Advanced Medical Microbiology have led to their recognition as leading figures in the production of science and research activities in the microbiological profession.
In addition to educational and research activities, participation in designing and revising specialized microbiology curricula at different levels, participation in the establishment and making contributions to the scientific associations of Microbiology and other related fields, planning and implementing specialized workshops in Microbiology such as: conducting research in various aspects of the microbiology of medicine, contributing to the formulation and organizational the science of Microbiology by means of participating in the launch of scientific journals, peer-reviewing academic papers in editorial boards of journals, planning and holding congresses and conferences related to Microbiology, and Department members official membership in committees, councils, and specialized microbiological planning groups.

  • Molecular Epidemiology of infectious Diseases and antibiotic resistance
  • Genotyping of bacteria
  • Nanotechnology in the treatment, diagnosis and prevention infectious diseases
  • Designing bacterial vaccines
  • Makin use of bacterial metabolisms in the treatment of cancer
