Applied mathematics department dates back to 1991 when it used to admit master students in the Faculty of Basic Sciences. Currently this department has one professor, two associate professors and 5 assistant professors. The department owes its outstanding performance to its cooperation with pure Math. Dept. and other rank one universities in Tehran.
Mission and Programs
Applied mathematics as a dynamic branch of the ancient mathematical science has attracted the attention of scientists and managers in recent years. Despite the abstract nature of its concepts, applied mathematics reflects external realities which can be applied in other fields of sciences, especially in the industry and various aspects of human life. The educational and research objectives of the applied mathematical department of TMU Faculty of Mathematical Sciences are as follows:
-
Educational objectives: at community level and at university level
-
Research objectives: In general and for service provision
Educational objectives at community level:
-
To train senior experts and experienced PhD holders who are able to analyze the pragmatic issues related to advanced mathematics in the educational, engineering, industrial and economic fields.
-
To train individuals for the transfer and training of advanced mathematical science and to fulfill the needs for advanced mathematics by other disciplines
-
To train specialists and researchers who can advance the boundaries of math knowledge at the national, regional and international levels in order to obviate the need to outsource services
-
To promote the scientific level of the community in the field of applied sciences and math-related sciences
Educational objectives at university level:
-
Familiarity with the field of applied mathematics
-
Deeper understanding of the concepts and methods that graduate students who have already covered in their undergraduate courses such as: One-way and multi-variable arithmetic, linear algebra, discrete mathematics, differential equations, and partial derivatives, single algebra, real and mixed analysis, numerical analysis and operations research
-
Understanding fundamental concepts and new theories on modern applied mathematics such as scientific calculations, numerical analysis, discrete and continuous optimization planning, higher engineering mathematics, mathematics in management and economics, computational fluids mechanics, parallel computing and artificial intelligence, artificial neural networks, solving differential and integral equations (ordinary and minor) and control theory
-
Teaching problem-solving skills by strengthening the creativity and innovation abilities and creating interdisciplinary thinking to enable collaboration with other academic disciplines
-
Learning the inductive reasoning approach as a mathematical science base for evaluating practical numerical methods. Studying programming for large scale issues and solving problems encountered in the use of sophisticated software programs. Familiarizing students with the principles of discovery in mathematics
-
Teaching students how to use technology as a research tool
-
Teaching students how to format and prove guesses
-
Enabling students to understand and analyze mathematical arguments for the sake of getting new ideas
-
Enabling students to present math ideas in a clear way, both verbally and in writing, with an emphasis on the scientific language of the world and the use of the Internet
-
To contribute to the dissemination of new concepts in the domestic, regional and international journals and collaboration with the international community to promote their respective universitys academic level
-
To train active and effective students who can solve the problems of their everyday lives and community problems
General Research Objectives
-
To contribute to the promotion of human knowledge and the introduction of new applied mathematical ideas at national, regional, Islamic world and international level
-
To create research spirit at the community level
-
To provide an appropriate context for communicating with industry and other organizations , to study the possibility of solving the problems of community, enterprises and business based on math-related principles
-
To meet the needs of the community through research and development, and to create a research center to systematically meet the needs of the country
Service Research Objectives
